Uwe Boll on Postal
Defensive, bitter, loud-mouthed, videogame-nerd bully and reviled director Uwe Boll, just released his “best film yet”, Postal.
Postal, based on the ultra-violent first-person shooters of the same name, is hardly a faithful adaption of the game itself. As it turns out, the movie is a cathartic interpretation of Uwe’s own frustration with his many and notable detractors - at least according to him. And he certainly has some notable detractors: The New York Times and GQ both named him “the worst film director in the world”.
Uwe Boll is quite familiar to the videogame press and enthusiasts alike, who equally lash out and viciously attack the man in print and online. And for good reason: he’s managed to sully the reputation of many beloved videogames, and tramples the hopes we might one day see a videogame movie adaptation that lives up to the game itself.
In a recent article on CBC.ca by Greg Buium, we’re reintroduced to Dr. Uwe Boll (he holds a PhD in German lit) at the Vancouver premier of Postal. Of some note to our Canadian readers, he calls Canada his home for most of the year. Pride swells in our chests…
The article is a great read and covers Dr. Boll’s career and notable escapades, including a boxing match against four of his biggest detractors, each of whom he apparently beat the shit out of. Going Postal indeed. But what’s most interesting is that Uwe may not be the crazed asshole that his public persona suggests.
Could Uwe Boll be human after all?
