Top 10 Xbox LIVE games for week of December 1st: Community Games debut!
Halo 3 stays atop as champion of all of Xbox LIVE despite all odds being against it. Colour us surprised. Gears of War 2 which debuted last week at number two slips to the third position this week in what can only be described as a major disappointment for Epic’s blockbuster title. However, we have an answer for folks: The online matchmaking for Gears 2 sucks nuts. You heard it here first. Matchmaking takes an inordinate amount of time to complete, and, to add insult to injury, many games feature unacceptable lag. Speaking of adding insult to injury, Call of Duty: World at War takes the number two spot while its predecessor Modern Warfare sits pretty at number four. Considering fans of Modern War likely migrated to World at War, we’re going to go out on a limb here and crown this series the huge winner; if their numbers were combined, they’d surely be a strong number one. Not surprisingly, Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix (phew!) takes the top spot. This universally acclaimed repolished and rejiggered version of the timeless classic fighter was an absolutely perfect fit for Xbox LIVE Arcade. Coming in strong in second is the much love N64 platformer Banjo-Kazooie. Despite the steep price, gamers obviously figured the full length adventure was pound-for-pound a good value. A Kingdom for Keflings is riding high on its avatar functionality and solid, zen-like gameplay. Of note also is the evergreen Castle Crashers sticking in there in fifth place. But what the hell is with Worms and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3? Their resurgance is a bit perplexing to say the least, considering they were released ages ago in Xbox LIVE Arcade time.

And here we have our first ever Top 10 Community Games list. I shall remain silent, as I have not the strength of character nor the cash to waste on games of questionable value. I love this idea, but let’s face it: These homegrown, grassroots developed games are, well, half baked in most cases. Weapon of Choice, I hear, is a very unique sidescrolling shooter, and looks the best of all the games listed. Heed my words: Try before buying. Seriously.
