Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Demo coming to Xbox LIVE

News, Video

Lucasarts announced today that a demo for the highly anticipated game Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, will be coming to Xbox LIVE.

The exact date?  August 21st, less than a week away as of this posting.

According to the press release, “The demo gives players a taste of one of the early levels in the game: the TIE Fighter Construction Facility, under siege by a Jedi General named Rahm Kota. The Secret Apprentice has been sent by Darth Vader to hunt down and destroy the General, but is also told that, in order to remain a secret, he is to leave no witnesses.”

The game takes place between Episode III: The Revenge of the Sith and Episode IV: A New Hope.  You play the part of the aforementioned apprentice, who’s apprenticeship is under none other than Darth Vader himself, and primary goal is to hunt down the remaining Jedi in the universe and wipe them all out.  The story promises an internal struggle for the protagnist, twists and turns as you face the power of the dark side and struggle with its consequences - you may even turn against your master.

Also included in the demo is a tutorial intended to teach players how to use their Force Grip power.

The game promises to be a technical knockout featuring very robust physics and animation engines to compliment the Force powers on-screen.  As the press release states, the game takes “full advantage of newly developed technologies that will be seen and experienced for the first time together: Digital Molecular Matter, by Pixelux Entertainment, and euphoria by NaturalMotion Ltd.”

Here’s the awesome launch trailer in case you missed it:
