Gears of War 2: Easy Achievements Guide
I’m not what you would call an achievement whore, but I don’t mind bumping up my overall gamerscore with a reasonable amount of effort. Especially if there are some tricks to getting achievements that would otherwise take a much longer time to earn. As part of our Hints, Tips, and Games Guides series, we’re providing you with some helpful hints to get several Gears of War 2 achievements with ease.
Suicide Missionary: Completed all campaign acts on Insane Difficulty
Full disclosure: I haven’t actually tested this technique out myself. I can proudly say that I managed to defeat the campaign on insane all by myself. [Pats self on back.] However, my sources tell me that you can earn the Suicide Missionary achievement through campaign co-op with relative ease.
Here’s the trick: while you must have your difficulty set at Insane at all times, your co-op partner does not and this will not effect your ability to get the achievement. Co-op campaign allows both players to individually set their difficult level. So, if you buddy-up with a partner who’s difficulty is set at easy, they can essentially clean house while you play it conservatively, turtling away behind some distant cover.
Around the World, Again: Won a match on every map shipped with the game.
This one is actually quite easy, and the technique is the same as some of the other achievements to follow. Gears 2 features the ability to set up and host your own matches with bots filling in the spots of absent players. This means you can select any map then launch a game. By setting up a match with the difficulty of the bots set to easy, you can in turn easily set up and win matches on every map.
A Parting Gift: Killed 10 enemies with a grenade while down but not out.
First of all, you need to be downed while holding grenades to begin with. Once you’ve been downed, wait until an enemy comes near and then pull the right trigger. This detonates the grenade shortly there after and obliterates you and takes anyone nearby with you.
As with the Around the World achievement. Set up a multiplayer match with nothing but easy bots. Remember where the frag grenades are located on the map. Get them, equip them, then run into battle until you’ve been downed. If you’re lucky you’ll be downed and not killed outright (this actually happens in most cases), and you can wait for the enemy to come close before pulling the right trigger. Repeat.
Just remember not to get too close to the bots because they’ll tend to whip out their shotgun which tends to gib you rather than down you.
Pound of Flesh: Used 10 meatshields to survive.
What this entails is grabbing a downed enemy as cover (meatshield) then the meatshield being destroyed in one shot with some explosive device. There is a particular section of the single player campaign that is conducive to getting this achievement.
In Act IV: Hive, Chapter 5: The Best-Laid Plans, you’ll eventually make your way to the Bloodmount feeding areas where you have the choice to split-up: one pair goes up to balconies while the other pair faces off against a bunch of enemies in the large room below. Just after this scenario you’ll go outside and descend a spiral staircase (the one just after the hidden toaster easter egg for those in the know).
You’ll face off against a bunch Theron Guards on the staircase, many carrying Torque Bows. As you progress down the stairs, shoot out the legs of the guards carrying regular weaponry to down them, then quickly grab them as meatshields. Walk about openly allowing the guards with Torque Bows to stick a Torque Bow round directly into your meatshield. The meatshield will blow to pieces leaving you unharmed, and notched up one save for the achievement. Repeat.
Crossed Swords: Won 10 chainsaw duels.

Kick ‘Em When They’re Down: Executioner with style.
You need to perform all 11 of the weapon specific executions in order to get this achievement. Although easy to pull off, it’s a matter of knowing which ones are available. Remember, with the exception of the chainsaw attack, you can only perform executions on enemies injured and crawling on all-fours on the ground. Equip the proper weapon and follow the instructions as listed below.
1 - Lancer + B: Chainsaw
2 - Any Weapon + A (grab downed enemy as meatshield) then X: Meatshield Neck Snap
3 - Any Weapon + X: Curb Stomp
4 - Any Non Execution Weapon + Y: Face Punches
5 - Sniper Rifle + Y
6 - Sniper Rifle + B
7 - Boltok Pistol (the Locust handgun) + Y
8 - Boom shield + Y
9 - Shotgun + B
10 - Torque Bow + Y
11 - Torque Bow + B
