EA Sports Goes Casual with Freestyle
EA announced today a brand new sports “sub-brand” aimed at casual gamers: EA SPORTS Freestyle.
According to the press release, “EA SPORTS Freestyle games, while based in sports, will be playful, inclusive, casual, and easy to pick up and play for kids and parents, women and men, and casual and hardcore sports fans of all ages.”
If anyone needed any more indication of the lucrative pull of the burgeoning casual games market, EA SPORTS Freestyle’s entry should suffice.
The first game released under the banner will be Facebreaker, a boxing game, due in September 2008. There are currently two other games also in development and slated for release in the next 12 months.
There are no details yet which platforms they’ll be released on, our whether they’ll be full retail games or smaller downloadable games through the systems’ respective services.
