DOOM 4 in the Oven
id Software announced on their website today that DOOM 4 has begun production at the venerated developer. The announcement is a call to arms of sorts, as they’re soliciting new talent to build up the team that will ultimately bring the game to fruition.
“DOOM is part of the id Software DNA and demands the greatest talent and brightest minds in the industry to bring the next installment of our flagship franchise to Earth,” said Todd Hollenshead, CEO, id Software.
This is great news for DOOM fans, but it’s uncertain what platforms the game will appear on just yet, or for that matter a release date. Given the high profile of the game, id’s own high standards of quality, and that they’re just ramping up production, we don’t expect a release until late 2009 at the earliest.
Don’t hold your breath.
In the meantime, id is also heavily at work on Rage, a car racing, first person shooter, action hybrid.
