Bungie Working on New Halo

News

While nothing has been confirmed in exact detail, it is otherwise confirmed that Bungie is working on a new Halo for Xbox 360.

Bungie.net’s recent front page featured a countdown timer that was to end sometime this week.  Unfortunately, the announcement was cancelled.  Clearly something big was afoot, and Bungie has been at pains to appologize to its fans.

However, Xbox CEO Don Mattrick let slip during an interview with MTV.com that the cancelled announcement and game that Bungie was working on is, indeed, another Halo game.  To quote the blog piece at MTV.com, “I asked for clarification, wondering if Mattrick meant Bungie’s project was ‘Halo Wars’ or the long-announced Peter Jackson ’Halo’ project. Neither, Mattrick said. The Bungie game is something else.”

Whoops!  There are no firm details, however, on what form the game might be taking.  That is, officially.

Recent speculation over at gamespot.com seems to be of the strong opinion that this new Halo project is not only not a first-person shooter, but will not feature Master Chief either.  Their trusted source states that the game would be a squad based shooter along the lines of Gears of War or, more aptly, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter.

With an announcement just cancelled, we can’t be too far away from knowing for sure what is really going on over at Bungie studios.
